Hurtin' Kind 03:52
Hurtin' Kind (© Jim Gleason, 2012) You were my good time baby Everyone said one of a kind I’m nobody’s fool, but yours, it turns out How could I be so blind? I just didn’t see What was right before my eyes. I didn’t know, I couldn’t see That you were the hurtin’ kind. I’m not sayin’ I’ve been perfect Don’t like throwing stones But how can you do the things you did? Someone’s got to atone Wish I had seen What was right before my eyes. I didn’t know, I couldn’t see That you were the hurtin’ kind. Haven’t told much of a story You’ll just have to take my word The things that you know, you don’t really know And can’t trust the things that you heard Or things you can’t see When they’re right before your eyes I didn’t know, I still can’t see That you were the hurtin’ kind.

Last Fish Standing (© Jim Gleason 2013) Get up in the morning, feet stick to the floor Forgot to buy some coffee when I was at the store. Found the morning paper soaking in the rain Tryin’ to dodge the bats and things buzzing in my brain But I can still remember those things I learned in school The teacher always tellin’ us to live the golden rule Yeah, yeah, times is hard, and life is so demanding That’s when I find I tell myself… Be the last fish standing. Washed my hair with cream rinse, made sure to do it twice Now my head’s a fuzz ball, looking extra nice Broke my other shoelace, dog chewed up my hat Another day in Paradise, a crummy one at that I need to find the gumption to get me through the day Consider the alternative, there is no other way Should’ve seen it coming, my misery’s expanding Now’s the time to tell myself… Be the last fish standing. Cheerio, pip pip, hoist the Jolly Rog Don’t start the engine, close the door, relax in the garage I’ll feel good tomorrow, and you won’t hear me whine I’ll be on the upward slope, and that’ll do just fine. A seeming contradiction, or just the way you feel Don’t turn onto the off ramp and let go of the wheel Things to do tomorrow, the fun is never-ending Better go remind yourself… Be the last fish standing.

Reloaded 04:10
Reloaded Every guy does something he never should’a done And offers lame excuses -- “I was only having fun.” Lacking all good sense that God gave to a trout I brushed off all the warning signs as I was heading out. I should’a seen it coming approaching from behind Giving me the caution flag, but I paid it no mind. I shot myself straight in the foot That’s when my world imploded. I could have said “I’m sorry” But that’s when I reloaded. It’s obvious to me, I should be thinking of a way To eradicate the mess I’ve made, in hopes she’ll let me stay. It’s pretty plain to see, my brain was going in reverse I said, “this looks like trouble.” That’s when it all got worse. My loser friends all told me that everything was fine. That shoulda been a warning flare, but I paid it no mind. I shot myself right in the foot My confidence corroded. I could have said “I’m sorry” But that’s when I reloaded. Darling, please believe me, this wasn’t what I planned I tried to take the warning track, but things got out of hand. Maybe it’s the smoke from all the bridges that I’ve burned. Obscuring all the roads where I should probably have turned. Don’t know what I was thinking a moment of the time I could have been repairing things, but I thought I was fine. I shot myself right in the foot My relationship exploded. I should have said “I’m sorry” But that’s when I reloaded.

Reilly 04:41
Reilly (© Jim Gleason, 2014) There exists a shade of green, the like you’ve never seen A color that binds us to the soil. We’re farmers tried and true, what we were meant to do Passing time while giving honest toil. In coats the shade of blood, they pushed us in the mud Decades past, our lives had stayed the same We’d talk alone at night, itching for a fight We thought we knew where we should lay the blame. They came and took our land Oppressing every woman, child and man The day would come to fight For what we knew was right. Reilly rode from town to town, until the sun went down While we scratched a meager living from the ground. Taxes he’d collect, instead of our respect Sending all our money to the Crown. While working for the King, he plotted through the spring Knowing what a little help might mean. He used his barns to store armaments galore The opposite of treason, unforeseen Some sought to lay the blame For the dead, the wounded and the lame. Reilly was our quiet friend Yet some cursed him to the end Our freedom came at last, but with a rifle blast. An English bullet cut poor Reilly down We look back on that day, an awful price to pay For Reilly, the man who saved our town. We fought together, hand in hand Enlisting every woman, child and man We knew we had to fight For what we knew was right. Now we all should shed a tear, no traitor as we feared Reilly rose just when the chips were down. Ever since that day, we raise a glass and say To Reilly, the savior of our town.

Love You Less (© Gleason & Green, 2012) Man it’s quiet here, my breath and beatin’ heart Hell starts breakin’ loose. That’s when the voices start A list inside my head, all things I need to say But I can’t tell you, now that you're gone away. Not really much to see here, a clock and a window shade Hardly much worth saving, for all the plans we made. And I still see you walking out that door. There’s no turning back now, I don’t guess I know you don’t love me any more But I don’t know how to love you … any less. The heart knows what it wants, That’s how Woody went. It’s not the best example, but I still know what he meant. You say you don’t love me, but I think you’re wrong. I see a house that’s empty, but here’s where you belong. Now you’ve said your piece, and there’s nothin I can do I know you say it’s over, ‘cept I’m not over you And I still see you walking out that door. There’s no turning back now, I don’t guess I know you don’t love me any more But I don’t know how to love you … any less.

Pointed little potshot, knife between the ribs Only kidding, that is what you’d say. Always stirring trouble, stick between the bars Spreading hate from deep inside the cage There’s some confusion what bully pulpit means But bully’s exactly what you are You’re just a mean one that no one else can see Everything you touch creates a scar But it’s a secret Your dirty little secret. There’s no connection to all the things you say Nothing there to tell her who you are A tattered little curtain acting as disguise Lobbing hateful word bombs from afar You’re a hateful little bully, pushing her around Typing on your smartphone, weak and small Go and wash your hands like Pilate Isn’t gonna clean them up at all ‘cause it’s a secret Your dirty little secret. You’re the cause of trouble, waiting around the bend A ticking time bomb, waiting to explode Wish you’d go and hide, or maybe run away Or maybe raise your hand so everybody knows You hateful little bully, picking on the weak Tearing down as if it’s just a lark Makes me wonder how you even sleep Lying there alone and in the dark Must be a secret Another dirty secret Your dirty little secret

Christmas Present (© 2012 Jim Gleason & Tom Green) Just outside my bedroom window snow was falling I was looking out, just trying to find some proof. Mom & Dad asleep, and me up waiting Trying to hear the reindeer on the roof. When morning came, I found my pile of treasures Mama said “I got my treasure, too. My greatest gift is Christmas Present, Here this day with you.” Now I know the truth of what she told us Now I know how precious time can be Wrapped in love, the greatest gift To have you here this day with me Rich or poor, it’s just as much a treasure Young or old, it’s always bright and new Wrapped in love, our Christmas Present Christmas here with you… Wrapped in love, our Christmas Present Christmas here with you

WORLD-WIDE NOBODY (© 2010 Thomas H. Green and Jim Gleason) I used to be just another small town musician I'd play and sing and now and then maybe write a song or two Mostly just for fun you know I sure ain't no Hank Williams But my buddies said I oughta make a video and put it up on YouTube They said sometimes it'll go viral, millions of people will watch But my video went sterile, thank you very much Now I' m a world-wide nobody on the internet I got a grand total of a hundred and thirteen views Most of those were me, I think I mighta got three From Belarus (whoever she is) I'm a major global non-phenomenon Unknown in Tahiti, Timbuktu, and Tibet I never could get ignored by so many folks before I was a world-wide nobody on the internet Sometimes I play at a neighborhood pub on the weekend There's me and my guitar and there's a haIfa dozen widescreen HDTVs People watch the games and they eat the spicy wings and they drink some And over in the corner there's a fella with a six string- that would be me It used to hurt my feelings when they wouldn't all listen and watch But it's only a neighborhood pub-full, it really ain’t all that much To a world-wide nobody on the internet Last count, I had a hundred and fifteen views A little higher than it was before, just now I got two more From Belarus (I think she might be a stalker) I'm a major global non-phenomenon In Peru they say 'who?' and not one Kurd has heard me yet I never could get ignored by so many folks before I was a world-wide nobody In Albania, Lithuania, Nigeria, Liberia, Bolivia, Namibia, Spain and Ukraine, I never could get ignored by so many folks before I was a world-wide nobody on the internet I might need medical help, it hurts when where I skyped myself I' m a world-wide nobody on the internet.
